Author: BAB Might be hard to do but they changed from rubber band drive to a kind of silver motor then I though to a plastic framed one. Oh and the other two answers, how dumb to some one asking a question why?

The original old Blue Box unit labeled as an SW1500 was actually an SW7. Latter they tooled up an actual SW1500, but I think that is on its own frame. Also sold as an SW1000, and latter still made in China in the RTR line. Unfortunately I am not a B&M guy so I do not know what that unit number actually was.
A very very long time ago Athearn retooled the frames and motors so they could make models with scale width hoods. The road units all had scale 7' wide hoods to fit the motor they made at the time, actual hoods on EMDs anyway were 6' wide. If you have a wide body shell on its frame it fits, but if you try to put a scale width body on an older wide body frame it does not fit. The olde Blue Box SW7 (sw1500 mislabeled) was actually correct width for the wide body motor as SW hoods were actually wider. BUT, the SW units had smaller versions of the same motor so it could fit between the gear towers on the much shorter SW frame. So perhaps you are trying to put a standard motor in an SW unit and it will not fit as it is too long. The hood width changes from the SD45 and SDP40 to the SD40-2 and on the geeps from the GP35 to the GP38/40/50/60. So I am not sure what your question really is and in any case a lot more information is needed to try and give an appropriate answer. OH, and the wheels changed at least four times as well. Richard.
