Model Railroading > decoder questionsDate: 10/17/24 16:12 decoder questions Author: Charls Hi all two quick questions on not responding decoders:
1. I have a locomotive setup from old days that has both a motor decoder and a sound only decoder that was the way at the beginning of dcc sound, the motor one works but the sound sudddenly quit, no funky sound or else just silent they were set up at the same addresss so is the likely that it is toast for some reason 2 I have a set up where the sound decoder suddenly doesnt respond to command or address, but the horn come on on its own and constant, there is spurt of moving motor movement then stop, I try to reset it to default value, no change, I am to consider it also toast Thanks Charls Date: 10/17/24 18:39 Re: decoder questions Author: railstiesballast If you have access to the manufacturer's tech manual and can do a decoder reset, that might work.

Cheers, Harry Date: 10/18/24 06:24 Re: decoder questions Author: funnelfan With something that old, I would consider just swapping for a modern sound decoder that also has the motor and light controls. The sound will be wayyy better using the Tsunami, ESU or TCS decoders.
