Model Railroading > Saturday Clean Up on the L&NDate: 11/02/24 19:24 Saturday Clean Up on the L&N Author: BoilingMan It's the First Saturday of the month- so I'm out to Montecito for a day of operations on Gary Siegal's L&N Eastern Kentucky Division.
I always come early call have dibs on the pre-operations track cleaning. It gives me a chance to run some of the power I've been working on aboard The Good Boat Marika Paige. This morning I ran a GP9-F7B-F7B-GP9 set North Bound across the RR, and returned with an SP-2 (4-10-2). All done- Let's run trains! Although the BCR RDC was a unique touch. Date: 11/03/24 15:23 Re: Saturday Clean Up on the L&N Author: BoilingMan If you Goggle “Gary Siegel L&N Eastern Kentucky Division” a fair bit of stuff will pop up.
It’s a somewhat famous layout and was on the cover of MODEL RAILROADER several years ago. I have no claim to its glory, I simply stumbled upon it a few years ago through a friend, and now attend operating sessions held on the 1st Saturday of every month. It takes about 15 to run the session properly. If only 10 or so show up then corners can be cut by declaring a miner’s strike shutting down the coal moves, but you know how it is- no one really wins in a strike! Here it is heading into Marathon Siding to get past a parked pig train. The gray center car is a solid brass roller car like you see on the L&N, the two box cars are Accurail bodies on track slider cars. (Why not enjoy some eye candy?)
