Model Railroading > And......They are gone! D&RGW ScaleTrains SD45sDate: 11/05/24 06:47 And......They are gone! D&RGW ScaleTrains SD45s Author: SPDRGWfan Looks like the ScaleTrains SD45's are one of the early sellouts at ScaleTrains, both small and large herald.
I received my 5 last Friday and have two of them programmed for road numbers and ran around the layout a few times. Nice models! Cheers, Jim Fitch Date: 11/05/24 06:49 Re: And......They are gone! D&RGW ScaleTrains SD45s Author: mcdeo At least you should be able to find them at retailers. But yes, with all of the pre-orders and very few extras, gotta pre-order or get them when you see them.

I have a bunch of Athearn RTR line DRGW SD45's. Of course they are not as fully detailed as the ST units but they are still very very nice and Rio Grande correct. I bought them new when ST was still to be heard of. Oh, and I am not a sound guy so with or without sound is not a problem. I prefer to listen to music or watch TV when running trains. Plus what sound units I have are Tsunami as I cannot stand ESU stuff. Date: 11/05/24 12:02 Re: And......They are gone! D&RGW ScaleTrains SD45s Author: SPDRGWfan I have some of the Athearn RTR SD45's too. From what I recall, they were based on upgraded Rail Power shells. Athearn did Rio Grande #5333, which has the inverted Rio Grande colors on the nose which is kind of cool.
I'm working on getting the Kaiser coal train together - spent the some time last weekend converting the UP and D&RGW Thrall high side gondolas over to Kadee couplers and removing the plastic McHenrys. Athearn Genesis provided the UP cabooses with the green K a few months ago to bring up the rear which I have now. I'm needing to next get decoders into the Athearn RTR UP SD45's which have the road numbers used in the Kaiser Pool Service. Here is the referernce to UtahRail.net Kaiser coal trains: https://utahrails.net/utahcoal/kaiser-trains.php Cheers, Jim Fitch Date: 11/05/24 19:26 Re: And......They are gone! D&RGW ScaleTrains SD45s Author: TomG Just goes to show the SD45 is still a very desirable locomotive. I remember the jackwagon that got on here bitching about ScaleTrains wasting their time on the SD45x that nobody wants. Yep, that one is sold out as well. There are still lots of us that model caboose era.

Yup.. and we still need late-era SP SD45s (SP 8982-9151) with the L-shaped engineer's windshield, large plows on both ends, Farr Radiator Grilles and split subbase doors, and SD45s in many other road names/eras not yet seen (WC, MRL, 80s era ATSF, UP, SLSF and many more..), hopefully from ScaleTrains. For some reason those always seem to get pushed off as Genesis level diesels. Hopefully another SD45 announcement will be coming soon that includes them!
