Model Railroading > Heavy on the CementDate: 11/16/24 14:52 Heavy on the Cement Author: funnelfan I'm working on building a block of cement hoppers to run in my UP trains circa the early 1990's. So far I've acquired a 3-pack of the Athearn ACF Centerflow UP 2-bay covered hoppers. An Athearn car with the MP Screaming Eagle logo. An Intermountain ACF 2-bay MKT car with the large yellow letters, and two of the Walthers Trinity rib side 2-bay cars in UP. Wonder if there are any other cement cars that were typical in that time frame for a UP train? Keep in mind this is before the SP and CNW mergers.
Photo below to catch people's attention. UP's Nelson Turn heads back toward La Grande, OR heavy with cement from the Ash Grove Cement plant at Nelson, OR. Sept 23rd, 2005. Ashgrove Cement had it's own cars originally with TCMX reporting marks. I think I will attempt to design some decals to model these cars. Yep, I have a couple of the Rapido Flexi-Flo hoppers that were used in cement service.
