Model Railroading > Division Point Models looking for input....Date: 11/20/24 14:50 Division Point Models looking for input.... Author: funnelfan Division Point Models is looking for input on a couple of future projects, specificly verbal commitment to buy which particular models. Of primary interest here is the Baldwin 90-ton 2-8-2 that was the basis of a lot of logging and shortline steam locomotives. Several examples are still running. They've selected four models to produce. These are a modern brass models by a well respected brass manufacture, and feature a steep price tag to match of a estimated $2600 per model. I realize that is far out of reach of most model railroaders. But this never before produced model is targeted toward brass collectors and die hard model railroaders that just have to have these particular models, as many of us have spent time around the prototype locomotives. I made a strong point about making the #19 in the Oregon Pacific & Eastern scheme, the scheme she wore in the Emperor of the North movie, the all time best railroad movie.

Date: 11/21/24 00:19 Re: Division Point Models looking for input.... Author: needles_sub The prices of brass seemed to have skyrocketed with the loss of many importers.
With no competition, importers seem to charge what they may. And yes, there will be many hardcore collectors that will purchase them. The vast majority of models will never turn a wheel on model rails. Date: 11/21/24 11:36 Re: Division Point Models looking for input.... Author: original totally wrong attitude - price is not what the market will bear - Importers get a bid from the builders and than set a price.

buy.... maybe a project car BEFORE the project starts. Or golf. Or....(fill in any serious hobby). George Andrassy Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/22/24 10:22 by Auburnrail. Author: wabash2800 At that price, the manufacturer and seller don't have to produce and sell as many models to cover their costs and provide a margin for all involved. They probably have it figured about right.
Before I retired (and didn't have a spouse), I might get a $4000 bonus and could afford to splurge on a $1400 brass Overland bridge. There are definitely some modelers and collectors that can afford that $2600 brass, HO, limited run, brass steam loco. But for the buck, I'd rather get one in O scale.
