Impressive TOFC train.  Past few months I've been getting a combination of Atlas 89' TTX, BLMA 89 flats , Walthers Bethlehm 89' TTX, Genesis 89' F89F, Walthers 85' and Athearn RTR 85' flats layout ready.  I've found many of them needed tweaked for couplers to match the Kadee gauge and some were bowed and had to be gently bended straight.  The TOFC version I've been assembling is more toward mid-late 1970's.

Cheers,
Jim Fitch

Fun train. Good to be able to put it on a layout that can adequately display it. Like those CNW Falcon SD40-2s. Thanks for sharing.

Liked the video, a really impressive TOF. Jim I !ike yours as well, really like the City Market trailers. Funny how you could find pictures of the Rio Grande TOF trains full of City Market trains 20 years ago, but now the are hard to come by.

While I don't have much in the way of scenery, just desert sand, I did take a couple video's of at TOFC train.  The video were to large to email to get them on my computer so I may need to connect my phone with a cable to move the video over to upload.

They were aquired by Kroger a few years ago.

Tom:

Thank you for confirming those City Market trailers were real. I thought they were just made up company. I have a few and I run them, but I didn't know that was an actual company until your post.

Back in 1982 I traveled from California to Aspen Colorado where my sister went to music camp.  We shopped in a City Market.  The trailers went from Denver and were unloaded at points where the trailers went to drop off groceries there.  There are photos of Rio Grande TOFC trains being loaded with City Market Trailers - I don't remember where I saw them.  Since I'm modeling the D&GW in the mid-1970's through early 80's, I made it a point to buy some City Market trailers when Trainworx offered.them.

Good one!

BTW, I've seen Fruit Growers Express trailers in photos of D&RGW trains.  Trainworx has them coming in both HO and N.

Excellent scenery in the video - flawless!
The TOFC train’s variety is very realistic.

I was doing work for a couple of the Trainsim content creators back in the 90s and did a lot of research on Rio Grande and their TOF trains and made a lot of trailers for a route package. That's when I became aware of the Denver City Market Trailers and had to reproduce them. Back then it was much easier to find photographs of them than it is today. You would think since some of the photos were on the internet they should still be out there, but not really the case. If I ever get Dell to repair my laptop that got water damaged in a fire, ill go through it and pull up the old photos. Since it was one of my favorite trailers I wish I had gotten a couple when they were available.

Your Falcon TOFC is impressive . I admit I'm a bit envious of it. It looks so much like the Falcon TOFC trains I saw in operation in 1977 in Fremont, NE. That train departed westbound just a little before 1 PM .  Thanks for sharing your video !

You got that right.  I did some searching and couldn't find anything.  If you recover the photos would love to see them.

BTW, sent you a pm - I know a vendor who still have all 3 numbers of the City Market Trailers.  I'd like to find some N scale Trainworx City Market Trailers - I've been searching several years for the N scale version.

Cheers,
Jim

They also have a good price on Rapido Navajo trailers. If you dont have any, they were common on the TOF shared between WP and RG.

Thank you for all the replies and information.  I have a core train of about 20 flats that are reliable and i really don't know how many trailers but I try to make the mix appropriate for the train I'm running.  Keeping things in useable condtiion when taking them back and forth to a club constantly has been challenging.  I had some trailer pins break off recently and replaced them with 1.5mm brass rod and that seems to be a good solution.  I hope TRAINWORX expands their HO offerings - they have things available in N that woudl be sure sellers in HO; the Stack Pacs and theiir flexi-vans come to mind.  Hope to see more videos of TOFC trains from the TO crowd.  I'm not an expert by any means but have been happy with the results I've gotten so far.

Well ya thats obvious. Lol Just kidding. Your TOF is impressive and looks great. My only comment is it would be more likely to have a business car on the back behind a caboose than 3 different cabooses from 3 different roads, but there is a prototype for everything. Thats a great looking train on a great looking layout.

Trainworx has more trailers due in the future, both straight and drop frames.

I saw Rapido Navajo trailers there. The Rapido trailers seem to represent early trailers. I'm guessing few, if any were left in TOFC service by the mid 1970s. But I'll check to see what are available, there seems to be some different options including Walthers.

Yes, there were Navajo trailers on the WP TOF in the late 70s in the canyon.
