Model Railroading > T&T #6 finally runs

So my "frankenbashed" tonopah and tidewater 2-8-0 #6 got some much needed fine tuning, shimming and by the end of the day at the CCRA clubhouse finally ran...small problem though,  I can't shim it anymore in either the front or rear the gear either binds or skips so it's in the "sweet spot" but still kind of makes a grinding sound, do I just need to keep running it till the nylon gears set in? Or should I try the old toothpaste trick?
