Model Railroading > Citrus Express, finally. (UPDATED, NEW VIDEOS)Date: 01/06/25 10:59 Citrus Express, finally. (UPDATED, NEW VIDEOS) Author: SALGUY Over the past almost 2 years I've been working on the Tampa Northern, building a railroad, developing an image, putting that image forward for all to see with locomotives and cars.. One of the things, and what brought the Tampa Northern from a switching and terminal operation, to a class 1, was the development of the Citrus Express.
Without further delay, I present to you the Tampa Northerns premier train, the Citrus Express. Video 2. 3 U33Bs hustle the famed Citrus Express toward its destination. Video 3. 3 SD45s, including a hinose unit, handle the Citrus Express. The hinose unit was done to honor my very good friend Robert Harpe who passed away last April. He was a huge fan of the southern railway and an outstanding modeler and person as well. https://www.facebook.com/share/g/19Pd1ZMScB/ Thanks Denis Blake Edited 1 time(s). I figure if it makes a test good at speed, it's good for slow speed as well.

No.86 - the Fox and no.280 would sometimes catch E-units for power. I still remember the cool spray of melted ice coming off the fast moving Fruit Growers "yellow-belly" reefers. You got a good looking train. Date: 01/07/25 19:43 Re: Citrus Express, finally. Author: SALGUY Folks don't realize that the Seaboard was a very fast moving railroad. For several years in the mid 60s, TT23 was recognized, by Trains Magazine, as the fastest freight train in North America. Their E units were geared for 117mph, and proved it, daily. Their SDP35Ss were set up for 95mph running. The SAL was no slouch.
Thank you for your kind words. Denis Blake TTHOTS Date: 01/07/25 19:46 Re: Citrus Express, finally. Author: SALGUY WP921 Wrote:

I used the SALs jolly green giant green as the basis for my paintscheme. These units are painted with Tamiya Park Green. Personally, I think they look awesome. Indeed it was something else. Let's just say the bathroom facilities dropped straight to the road bed. DB Date: 01/09/25 09:20 Re: Citrus Express, finally. Author: wabash2800 Sorry, way off topic, but I remember when filming trains at Highwood, IL ,on the C&NW, the toilet paper tinted with brown on the tracks in front of the station. I had my kid sister with me and she once asked what that was. My reply was, "what do you think it is?" When my mom was a child in WWII Germany, she would have to ride a train to school. As pranksters, kids would flush the train toilets at the station stop. I'm sure it was a prank here in the U.S. too. That's something I don't have to necessarily model that on my model railroad... <G>
