Scalecoat dries to a smooth shiny finish. You can aplly decals to directly. You do not need a gloss coat. However it is solvent based and you need to protect yourself. Have used it for 20 plus years with great results.

Two thumbs up for Scalecoat.

Best paint on the market.

Use their recommended mix of gloss and flat finishes. (I think it's 30-70.) It's a great finish over the decals and it's not so flat as to kill the effect, but not 'toy' shiny either.

I have been using Scalecoat exclusively for about 5 years now since I was turned on to it by one of my friends. A lot of people have turned to the acrylics, but I still prefer the finish of the Scalecoat products over any other paint out there.
