They should have as soon as possible hooked up a motor and pull the train back to Penn. I as a life long railfan and Amtrak supporter (unlike some of the trolls on here) would have also been irate having to spend 5 hours on the train with no toilets. Especially knowing how close we were to NYC and Sunnyside yard. Unfreakingbelievable! https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Amtrak-Heading-to-Boston-Stuck-in-NYC-For-Hours-Passengers-501206211.html Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/25/18 15:23 by stevelv. PRICELESS! Date: 11/25/18 18:03 Re: Amtrak Heading to Boston Stuck in NYC For Hours Author: pdt I worked at Northwest Airlines when we had an airplabe full of ppl sitting on the ramp for 8 hours, during a snowstorm.
Long and short of it.... Understaffed workers decided they werent go to stick their necks out and save the day. Mgmt had being treating everyone very poorly, and calling ppl on the carpet for bogus, nitpicky things, just to show their power. So no extraordinary effort under extroadinary circumstances. The motto around the campus was "We're not happy, till you're not happy". Mgnt was too stupid to figure out that happy employees make for happy customers. Believe it or not...Richard Anderson was the person who came in and changed the culture, and provided lots of perks for employees and made life nicer for everyone. Not nirvana, but better. IDK extactly what happened at Amtk, but it sounds familiar. There could have been a no overtime under any circumstances order out, or something. At any rate, when things get really bad, sometimes this is the way that ppl in the middle get mgmt's attention. Or sometimes its mission creep. Starts out as "we'll have you moving in 15 minutes". And the fix it time just keeps getting kicked down the road, and before u know it, 4 hours has gone by. Or sometimes u just have a day when everyone who is able to make a command decision, is just super type B, and they are not gonna make waves, no matter what the situation. A couple of years ago friends were on the Texas Eagle that lost power seven miles south of the Ft. Worth station. They sat there over six hours without the opportunity to leave the train. Just think how many engines must have been within 30' of the train. My friends said Amtrak - never again.

In that time, they even could have gotten a LIRR engine out of Morris Park, Queens and dragged the consist back to Harold, to NYPS or east to Woodside and let the passengers head back to NYPS on a LIRR train. At least they would have gotten out and to the restroom. LIRR used to keep Harold protect engines, a pair of SW1001 with Wabco couplers. But that was eliminated in 2010, and the facing siding at Harold they were stored on was torn up. Electric and a dual mode, I've been informed.
NJT often has a rush hour protect job of diesel plus electric out in Harrison to protect multiple lines. Posted from Android Edited to reflect an insider's PM Edited 1 time(s). Protect diesel comes up behind us. Adapter applied to diesel engine knuckle coupler. Shoves multiple times into us and cannot couple up due to being on a curve. So another M7 train is brought to front of our train, end doors opened, plank installed in doorways and we moved to that train and went on our way. A one hour delay or so.
