Passenger Trains > Amtrak Cascade 90252 on #14 (29)Date: 11/28/05 23:57 Amtrak Cascade 90252 on #14 (29) Author: DNRY122 Today's Coast Starlight left LAUS about 45 min. late with 90252 behind two P42's. Is this a "cabbage"? It appeared to be a de-motorized F40PH with a "Cascade" paint job, but did not have the roll-up door I've seen on similar units back east (e.g. on Downeasters). We old-time traction fans would call it a "control trailer".

It does not need the roller door because the Talgo trainsets already have their own dedicated baggage cars, the former engine-service doors is good enough as a back-up baggage section. Went to Los Angeles recently for repair work, check out pictures and thread of it going south http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,1037338,1037338#msg-1037338
Thanks for the heads up, if it's not too late tomorrow, I'll see if I can snap a few pics. I didn't have the digital camera along today, so now I have a photo of the unit, in better lighting. Taking pix at LAUS can sometimes draw the attention of the on-site law enforcement which includes LA County Sheriff's deputies as well as rent-a-cops.
Date: 11/29/05 01:35 Cabbage Car Photo Author: gobbl3gook Here it is in Davis. I didn't check TO for heads-ups, or I'd have walked down to the station to shoot it. It looked like an F59 from the rear.
