A Meteor Miracle In The Works !
Author: mp16

Today's SB Meteor finally left Penn Station at 8:37 pm instead of its scheduled 3:15pm departure. On top of this, the train is estimated to arrive in Miami tomorrow a mere 51 minutes late. How does one make up over 4 hours time under these conditions unless some sort of miracle is in the works ?? It will be very interesting to see how things work out. Let's see if CSX can really expedite this train.

Tons of padding which need to get shedded!

All padding, of course. I can remember when Amtrak used to give the Lake Shore's Boston section 25 minutes from Back Bay to South Station, which normally takes 5 minutes (I could walk it in <25). May also be some optimism on Amtrak's part too.

The train will arrive at least 5 hours late tomorrow, the Julie estimate notwithstanding.

Late trains tend to get later, and padding should not be shredded.

The train arrived Rocky Mount, NC this morning at 5:43 am. It normally arrives 11:56 pm so it appears it has lost more time. Why did they predict yesterday that it would arrive Miami only 51 mins. late when it left NYP so late ? As another posting recently suggested, Amtrak's Train Status info is frequently flawed.

The Meteor has not really made any time up as of 9:25 am this morning. It is scheduled to arrive Kingstree, SC at 4:05 am and it arived at 9:24 am, some 5 hrs., 19 mins late. There are still some 700+ miles to go to Miami and perhaps it might make up another hour at most. The train is normally scheduled to be in Jacksonville at 9:23 am . Kingstree is some 305 miles north of JAX.

Amtrak's original estimate that the Meteor would be only 51 minutes late into Miami will never come true. As of 3:28 pm today it was 5 hrs., 40 mins. late in Jacksonville. If the train had been on time it would be somewhere below Sebring at this time. It appears that very little time, if any, will be made up. Has anyone found out why the train left NYP 5 hrs late yesterday ?
