Passenger Trains > Caltrain Fatality in Palo Alto At Meadow Drive

At 4:50 pm Caltrain advised VTA there was an accident at the Meadow Drive crossing (near Alma) in Palo Alto; train hit a car with fatality. Service was stopped in both directions. VTA service from Palo Alto Caltrain was bombarded with passengers, both the local 22 and the 522 limiteds. While Caltrain did not specifically request a bus bridge, VTA put on a large number of extra service coaches.

At approx 6:50 pm Caltrain advised they were about to remove the car. No info on which direction the train was travelling.

By 7:30 or so, passenger loads were back to normal, but unable to contact Caltrain to determine status; lines were all busy.

Looks like it was a Bombardier train set. Hope the engineer will be okay has he/she had nearly an eye level view of the driver of the car.

Yeah, pretty rough day for them. When it happens here, I reach for the Excedrin.
