Passenger Trains > Amtrak's continuing difficulties in the Nutmeg stateDate: 03/17/08 10:22 Amtrak's continuing difficulties in the Nutmeg state Author: JPB Today a NH - Springfield shuttle train derailed north of Windsor Locks due to a mud slide. From AP:

Assuming 2 crewmen, the entire paying clientele could fit into a mid-sized car. Date: 03/17/08 11:20 Re: Amtrak's continuing difficulties in the Nutmeg stat Author: mp16 Earlier today Amtrak was showing that both the
southbound and northbound Vermonters had service disruptions. However, train status information does not even show the Vermonter operating WASH-NYP and terminating at New Haven. Would Amtrak eliminate even the WAS-NYP segment ? NB train operates at a busy hour and one might assume they would operate it at least between these two cities. Is that service operated with a three car train? Date: 03/17/08 13:08 Re: Amtrak's continuing difficulties in the Nutmeg stat Author: sactobob JPB Wrote:

I don't know much about the travel patterns on this line, but I note that the incident occurred on a northbound train at about 10am. I suspect this would be in the off-peak direction. There are probably more people heading to New Haven and for connections to New York in the morning. Also, the incident occured north of Hartford, so any passengers between New Haven and Hartford would have already detrained. It was a two car train (P42, Amcan, Control car). It's a three perosn crew: one in the cab, a perosn in change and an a/c. Southbound traffic patterns are generally much more dense, especially south of HFD. They do carry a decent amount of people northbound as well, to SPG, but not on a Monday morning.... -Tom Date: 03/17/08 20:40 Re: Amtrak's continuing difficulties in the Nutmeg stat Author: jp1822 So what will happen to the Vermonter for 3/18? Will it be a bus bridge, or through train? Anyone know?

They're still clearing the crap up. The Vermonter might be able to run through IF the crews are able to finish up. As for 141 in the morning, it will most likely be substituted, but I'm not sure where the train tied down for the night. -Tom Date: 03/18/08 05:51 Re: Amtrak's continuing difficulties in the Nutmeg stat Author: mp16 This morning(18th) Amtrak train status info
shows SB Vermonter is operating and is due New Haven 4:53 pm. The northbound Vermonter is expected to arrive Springfield 16 mins late. 495 Shuttle left SPG on time and is due NHV 11 mins late NB Shuttle 490 due SPG 08 early. Boston -Albany round trips are cancelled today and tomorrow because of track work. I assume the Vermonter might lose some time between Palmer and Springfield because of this.
