Set your "begin" and "end" points, and then watch the video's as you "fly over california" following the proposed HSR train. Not the same as "Soarin' over CA" at Disneyland though...

I'm keeping my hopes up that the bond measure goes through for this, but I sure hope they don't keep that ugly purple and yellow paint scheme...

Only 38 bucks? Boy they really think this is gonna pay off huh! Well, let's see come November, I still doubt it's still gonna happen!

Don't be so negative.

People with your outlook also doubted that Proposition 116 would pass in 1990. If that hadn't happened, the development of CAs corridors would have been unlikely, and Metrolink and Coaster probably would not have happened as they did.

Fortunately, people with a more optimistic outlook discounted the naysayers and the rest is history. HSR is just the logical next step, for those of us who don't want live in a backward country forever.

That's not purple and yellow--it's blue and gold, which happen to be the official California state colors.

Yeah, but each time the HSR proposal went into the ballot in November it always got shot down, so go figure on that Reindeer, cost for HSR is a lot more expensive compared to what's been goin' on when 116 passed back in 1990! Look at the facts!

Pro, put the bottle down for a minute. HSR cost a bunch more than 116 because it's worth more than 116. 116 was basically, buying new rolling stock, hiring some crews and double tracking EXISTING rail. HSR is all brand new ROW and stations and rolling stock.

ProAmtrak, from the last polls the Measure actually has a good percentage of supporters, something like 58% in support as I recall. It could flop easily if something happens, and those polls aren't always the most accurate, but on thing people need to keep is a good amount of optimism. If everyone tackled something like this with your level of pessimism then nothing would ever move forward.

It's a good plan, and the more people support it and believe in it the more likely it is to happen.

All we have to do is pay for it and decide who will make money on the plan. Someone will make a killing and, for the average citizen, it may or may not be worthwhile transportation. The HSR people likely have a target market on who will benefit the most from riding the railroad once it's in operation. That proposed market may exclude many. We'll see.

Don't worry, Arnold will take the bond money to balance the money woes we are having.

Aside from simulations, route diagrams, and other plans, have they made any details on what exactly the interior consist of this CA high speed train would be? Also, I think California better think twice about the passenger seat price for this train, as some would argue that such service should be in line with what is offered on the only present high speed line we havein the United States - thatis the NEC electrified line.

The actual interior of the consists is the furthest from anyone's mind right now. With regards to pricing and operations compared to Acela...Apples and Oranges. The existing Acela high speed train is operated totally differently than the planned California HS trains. The examples that California is following come from the French and Japanese models. In fact there are representatives from both the French and Japanese continuously working with the State and consultants on development of the system.

Notice the trains in most of the animations have a clear Bombardier look to them (think newer TGV or Acela), while the ones in the San Francisco and Sacremento animations look decidedly like the Japanese Shinkansen 700 (the one with the "duck bill").

90 bucks from SFO to Anacrime one way ? Virgin America is 38 (SFO-LAX).
Maybe Sir Richard could make an offer to operate it ...

Add taxi fare from Downtown to Airport and Airport to Downtown. Those who can use the train Downtown to Downtown makes a huge advantage, this is where the TGV, ICE, and Eurostar are so successful.

In fact, another airline has pulled out of Strasbourg this month since the TGV-Est has been up and running.

I'm still not holding my breath, I'll see it to beleive it, even if it does pass, how long until they actually break ground, or will it be like the Illinois HSR and what happened in Florida!
