Passenger Trains > Santa Barbara UpdateDate: 01/27/09 08:02 Santa Barbara Update Author: Josiah The UP sent everyone by 4 or 5 PM yesterday. The box culvert has been installed under the mainline, slurry poured either side for back fill, steel plates attached to the open ends and base dumped on top.
Early today, they started dumping ballast, will pull the two panels [#1 & #2 tracks] back in place, dump more ballast with the loaders, tamp and make several raises and be ready to run trains. They will weld up the joints either today or in the near future. I believe both #11 and 775 will run through tonight. The work train is parked on the #1 track with the power sitting above Castillo Street. My guess is a crew will be call later today to take the empty bulk head flats south to Oxnard/Gemco and or LA and east to Colton. The project went very well and all hands seem very happy. P5r24 Date: 01/28/09 20:25 Re: Santa Barbara Update Author: Josiah UP was adding a second channel for Mission Creek under the tracks at the old Chapala Street grade crossing which was closed a number of years ago. County Flood Control is footing the bill. The original wooden bridge over the current Mission Creek channel 100 yards to the north was replaced June 2008.
