Passenger Trains > Don't complain about Amtrak

For those of you who don't like the conditions on Amtrak, it could be worse.

But will Amtrak EVER get that much ridership?!?

I would guess India--is that a correct assumption? The passengers on top of the locomotive might want to stay away from the exhaust outlet--that would be a real "hot seat".

Having spent some time in India, I can tell you this is not actually the way things are. The trains are crowded, yes, people do hang out the doors, but nothing close to what pictures such as these and other similar ones depict.

If this is not "the real India", what's the story behind the photo?

Maybe it's Spring Break in India?

Hell, if this is their situation, just get a bunch of flatcars and throw some sofas on 'em and go. What's the difference? At least the engineer will be able to see the frickin track!

Actually no, they wouldn't. They don't even want the ridership they have now...

I believe these overcrowded trains are actually in Pakistan, and are associated with some religious festival or other. Pictures like this get distributed by AP every year.

except that the surfliner/del mar passengers wouldn't be sober enough to hold on like that from what i remember.......

And I thought the airlines were bad for overbooking. Sure hope the airlines don't see this photo or they will really start overbooking. Imagine holding on to the wing or tail to get to your destination and being charged full fare at the same time.
