Date: 03/07/10 18:03 UPDATE: News article re: Texas Eagle-tractor trailer co Author: GenePoon 18-wheeler stuck on tracks hit by train in Fort Worth
WFAA by Lucy Jones March 7, 2010 5:48 PM > FORT WORTH - An 18-wheeler stuck on the tracks in Fort Worth was hit > by an Amtrak train on Sunday. > > It happened around 3 p.m. at Handley Drive and Lancaster Avenue. Since this train turns into #59-08 at Chicago for New Orleans, I wonder if Chicago has enough equipment for a makeup train to protect #59-08, or will they just turn #22-07 at St Louis into #21-08 and use the equipment from #58-07 to make #59-08. It wouldnt be hard for Amtrak to send another unit down to St Louis from Chicago on #301 or #303 tomorrow, or if they already sent a unit down on #305 or #307 tonight.

The bolt-on composite nose of the Amtrak engine was caved in and the front of the engine was coated with some kind of yellow substance that the tank trailer was carrying.

the cars still stand for 59 monday Date: 03/08/10 05:35 Re: Texas Eagle-tractor trailer collision Author: sptno Sunday evening the south bound Amtrak had problems climbing the south Austin hill due to oil on the rails. It was also misting rain.
The UP tie gang had been working in the area on Sunday and they probably had a machine(s) leaking oil. Amtrak had to back down the hill to a point near the depot where UP freight locomotives pushed Amtrak up the hill. I was listening on the radio, interesting conversations. This started around 8:00 PM or so. I estimate the delay at least an hour. Pat South Austin, TX |
