Due to a mechanical break down on 09/07/10 two Pacific Surfliner trainsets were coupled together and travelled north out of San Diego.

I know this happens every once in a while but it was really something to see the long moving wall of 13 blue and silver Amtrak double deckers!

The SNAFU also caused other trains to stack up so there were two other Surfliners that came through Encinitas not long after the hospital train went through.

All photos were taken near CP Cardiff in Encinitas, CA. I don't think the anniversary unit's wrap job is holding up very well.

Was it a locomotive that crumped out, and if so, which one?

Lets think about that shall we? If a car "crapped out" would you need to couple two trainsets together to move them?

Also, look at the two locomotives pictured, note how much exhaust is coming out of each.

Well, downhill we were able to get up to speed pretty quickly, but climbing the grade from San Juan Capistrano to Irvine we may have been able to walk it faster, they ran two trains up the #2 and they both handily overtook us.
