Passenger Trains > Add 30 More Minutes to Late #5(19)

Hello-

Well, an already late-running #5 (with AMTK 156 and AMTK 66 on the point) is going to be another 30 minutes late this morning. It has left Denver Union Station but is stopped at Prospect Junction (less than a mile away). Why? Because apparently there is a Vice Presidential Motorcade running on I-25 and Amtrak isn't being allowed to run under the I-25 bridge until the Veep is clear!

#5 is expected to head west around 10:45am...

Thanks for the heads up. Out here in California, a late #5 will make the chasers drool when the train comes down the western slope of the Sierras, especially due to better lighting.

I hope the Veep got a nice view of the train from I-25.

Another update...

11:15am and still all red for #5 at Prospect Jct. D82 is "talking to the chief trying to see if they can give them a clear signal to go west..."

Amtrak 156 West by C&S Junction (northwest of Denver) on Union Pacific rails at high noon, May 20, 2011. Amtrak train 5 looks promising for Donner Pass light.

Why couldn't Amtrak Joe just give the clearance?

Perhaps he wanted to insure that it was still there when his motorcade came by so that HE could see it, too.
