Passenger Trains > Illegal Passenger Falls From Moving TrainDate: 06/30/11 11:29 Illegal Passenger Falls From Moving Train Author: reindeerflame Mojave National Preserve (CA)
Man Killed In Fall From Moving Train Rangers, San Bernadino County deputies, and Union Pacific police all responded on Monday to a report of a body lying near the railroad tracks west of the Kelso Depot Visitor Center. The victim, apparently an illegal passenger, appeared to have fallen from the train while it was in motion and hit the ground with great force, causing dismemberment. The coroner was summoned and is conducting an investigation into the man's identity. There were no witnesses, but the incident appeared to have occurred sometime early that morning. Yes, perhaps. But, a "passenger" was involved! Date: 06/30/11 14:00 Re: Illegal Passenger Falls From Moving Train Author: toledopatch reindeerflame Wrote:

But, a "passenger" was involved! Oooh, we need a new discussion board devoted just to threads about hoboes. I've been approached by the "train riders" while foaming, and have had some very interesting discussions. For those who saw Alex Ramos' presentation at Winterail 2 years ago, there was an interesting prose at the beginning about the dangers they face, from the words of a "train rider." Anyway, this kid (in the late 20's) was taking along a girl (early 20's), and they saw my scanner and figured I was a railfan, so they started talking. He had his way of figuring out train movements, and wanted to send this girl back home to Oregon, because she was becoming annoying, in his words. The Lake Yard (Portland) had already left, but I told him The Hinkle (MRVHK) was getting ready to depart in 30 min. to an hour, so he told the girl that she should know how to travel on her own now, go on and hop on that train, but she refused. Regardless of whether we agree with their lifestyle, they are still people, and it's very interesting to hear their side of the story sometimes. Or is this akin to the current trend that must label every pedestrian who steps in front of a train a "trespasser"? People killed while walking around the gates are pedestrians. Date: 07/01/11 12:10 Re: Illegal Passenger Falls From Moving Train Author: 567Chant Bum?
