A "properly pointed" PV
Author: john1082

Q: Given that I have an open platform PV, and that it is pointed the 'wrong way' for attachment to an Amtrak train, will Amtrak charge me for turning the car, and if so (you know so), how much might the charge be?

If it states 'properly pointed' on your PNR there won't be a charge if Amtrak has to turn the car. There may, however, be a charge if a freight carrier has to. If it doesn't state 'properly pointed' on your PNR, there probably won't be a charge, but on the other hand Amtrak may be less inclined to turn it, too.

Keep in mind that Amtrak itself doesn't have the capability to turn cars by themselves in many locations - Chicago is one, maybe Oakland, but not many other places. If the freight RR turns your car - even if it takes them 15 minutes - you can expect to receive a pretty hefty bill. Where is your PV being put on the train?

Chris.

Don't forget, in the old days when the 'pointless arrow' was
in vogue, they didn't know which way to turn it...
