California Zephyr 8hrs late

Any one know why the zephyr 8hrs late?

6 hr 15 min delay account hitting a pack of raccoons that caused air brake problems near Melvern, IA. Have BNSF motor on the point now. Must have been some big raccoons.

I hope Amtrak loaded the diner with turkey dinners in hot trays somewhere on the line. I would not want to be an attendant on this run. I hope no one had dinner plans that could not be changed.

In one of the low points of Amtrak cuisine, I was on #6 Thanksgiving 1998 and there were turkey dinners--but only for the crew.

they hit "animals" 60 miles east of Omaha
caused air trouble
were going to swap units around
ended up getting BNSF power which was swapped
out at Lincoln....to Denver where the AMTK protect
unit was to be added

Raccoons are prone to rabies. Did they hose down the train?
