I wouldn't expect that it would -- isn't this an official, party line paper ?
Some of the other articles have an 'interesting' spin to them, too.

Thanks for that point of view. I didn't spend a lot of time analyzing the article. I just thought some Trainorders members might be interested in seeing it. I like the part about the fire, though. And what about the picture of that passenger and his "carry on" baggage?

>>"The influence of rainy and misty weather reduced the electrical insulation on the high-voltage equipment on the roof of a Beijing-Shanghai high-speed train, causing circuit breakers on the electrical supply to jump and the high-voltage equipment on the high-speed train to switch off as a safeguard, resulting in delays to a number of trains," the ministry said.<<

Memo to Chinese High Speed Rail Ministry:

Steal better insulation next time...

It's highly likely that builders skimped on insulation by using a lower grade of material so the balance ended up lining some higher-ups' pockets. At least, if such were to be found out, it wouldn't surprise me...

The Chinese do seem to have "weather related" incidents on their high speed railways. A lightning strike knocked out signals, they say, just before that fatal collision, too.

About 15 years ago, I had an acquaintance who was an EMI/EMC (electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility) consultant, and he was employed full-time and then some working out grounding and interference problems on Amtrak's New Haven-Boston electrification project. Everybody that builds stuff has these problems.
