Amtrak Chicago-St. Louis Derailment
Author: shuttletrain

An Amtrak train from Chicago came off the tracks here today, leaving 145 passengers shaken but uninjured.
A set of wheels on the third of five cars on train 303 derailed just before 3 p.m. as the coach neared the Gateway Station south of downtown St. Louis, according to Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari.
"The whole train shook," said James Meyer, 18, of Buffalo Grove, Ill. "The power went out and it was so hot in the train cars."
Passengers were transferred onto the first two cars and arrived at the station after a 90 minute delay.
The train was scheduled to return to Chicago today but it was unknown when repairs would be finished. The cost of the damages to the train's wheels has not been estimated.
Passengers with tickets for that train may be tranported by bus, Magliari said.
Amtrak, the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis and the Federal Railroad Administration will investigate the accident, Magliari said.
