Surprise catch in Tehachapi
Author: walstib

On my way out to the Tehachapi Loop this morning I encountered a three-car inspection train heading south. At the next opportunity I turned around was was able to beat the train to the town of Tehachapi, where I took the first shot.

Shots 2 and 3 were taken a few miles south of Tehachapi.

In addition to the two locomotives, the consist includes the City of Salina, the Challenger and the Cheyenne.

All of the window shades were closed and I didn't see anybody in the passenger cars.

The train went through Tehachapi about 8 a.m.

Of course we value your life. If we didn't, then we wouldn't be able to extort your money...I mean...educate you.

I caught a glimpse of this train going north on Friday (7/12) from Train 712 at Calwa. One unit was at each end of the train.

Seems like an excessive amount of engine power for three cars. They must be moving road power in the general power pool to some location in So.Ca and one of the units went along for the ride or as protect for the other.

Nice to see it's not only the steam locos that they don't trust alone on a train.

When on OL patrol they have one engine at each end of the consist to make back and forth moves easier. When moving from place to place they put both engines on the head end.
