BNSF derailment delaying #7
Author: Chessie1963

I am on board 7(24) and we were just told we are being held for an unknown amount of time at Williston, ND due to a BNSF derailment ahead. Any info?

Thanks!

Any idea of the severity?

On the ND-Mont. state line.

Can each train head back to origin from Williston and Wolf Point after bus bridging everyone ?

It'd take some work, but yes.

Heard a car or two tipped over (presumably a stack train), on or near the West switch of Snowden around midnight.

Looks like 8 has moved now..

Not sure about 7, and I am guessing it's not going to go all the way to SEA/PDX.

Was not in range...we are coming into Whitefish. Hit a 2000 lb steer at 1030pm. More delay. When it rains, it pours.

Was this last night or the night before? I can't see how 7 can be near WFH 10:30 if it was held back 6 hours?

No such thing as a 2000 lb steer!

Repeating crew comments.

We hit the steer in central Montana, well before the Whitefish stop. Probably near Havre. Had to replace an air hose and inspect train. HEP was down for an hour or so as well. Train turning at Spokane to be today's 7/27.

There were two boxcars upside down near Snowden. One had fracking sand in it, the other had not opened. Seemed like a lot of delay for a pretty small derailment, but then again, I saw it after cleanup.

Longest Amtrak delay I have ever had. But they did a pretty good job with us, I have to say. Kudos to a solid crew. We got to Whitefish with sun just barely on the horizon...as it would have been if we were on schedule. It was just the wrong horizon!
