"Chicago-New Orleans Pullman Service, in Sunshine..."
Author: aussiehinz

After a couple of previous attempts to no avail, this morning's #58 arrived Chicago in much better weather to capture the new Pullman Service equipment returning from New Orleans. The sunshine was intermittent, to be sure, but the inbound train was a few minutes late, and had to stop at the bottom of the St. Charles Air Line for a short time to wait for an available slot between rush hour Metra trains to back into Union Station on the BNSF Chicago Sub. Fortunately, as that occurred, the Pullman Service equipment came to rest on the Air Line directly adjacent to "MH" Tower, some sunshine broke through, and I was able to get a few photos. Although I posted some similar views earlier in the week, I thought some of you might be interested in seeing the handsome passenger cars in better light.

Cheers,

aussiehinz

Gorgeous train, gorgeous shots.

IC colors never looked better to me than in these photos...

How long a back up move is that?

1.7 miles. From Union Ave Interlocking to the Union Station bumping post. Crewman protects the rear, and train moves right along. Same thing in reverse for trains destined outbound to IC points, they back out of CUS to Union Ave, clear the crossover switches, then reverse direction to head up the ramp onto the St Charles Air Line to access the ex IC main line south.

Thank you, MH, for the elusive sunny Chicago shots- thanks to 'lake' effect it's not easy to do!

Thanks for posting these pictures. The train looks good in the sunshine, which is, as somebody has already noted, elusive, this time of year in Chicago.
