Tie replacement project @ Toledo Amtrak station
Author: MSchwiebert

My normal route into work takes me by the Toledo Amtrak station, however the street this morning was a bit more conjested than normal due to 6 truckloads of new ties awaiting delivery. Along with those trucks was a rather new Amtrak MofW boom truck for unloading the ties. Not sure how the ownership of the trackage on the station grounds is set up, (other than knowing that NS would not have any role in it) so I was a bit surprised to see Amtrak handing it directly.

The loop into the station has been in awful shape for years.

Interesting - last time I saw them working on it down there I'm pretty sure it was an NS crew:

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority owns the station and its associated tracks, so it's conceivable they could contract track work to Amtrak as well as to NS -- or, for that matter, any number of other parties.

The tracks between the home signal on the west and the switch to the MOW facility on the east are owned by NS and leased to Amtrak.

The truck looked just like this one. Surprised that NS would have any involvement with the trackage at the station itself though.
