Hard to believe. Boston used to be the center of the universe.

I think that what has happened is that many are excited to see a new train starting almost anywhere in the USA that is non Amtrak and the L.A.to Las Vegas market has been begging for service since the demise of the Desert Winds. But yes ,there have been many postings about this and I hope it becomes real and is a money maker for those who will be investing in it. I have driven that dreaded I-15 from Barstow to Vegas and got stuck behind a wreck in 110 degree heat and that piece from Barstow west over the pass is now getting really jammed even with the addition of new lanes in the last 7 years or so. There is a need for this service and the train sound like it would be fun trip and an interesting consist too. In the 1960s I rode the UP Las Vegas Holiday Special when it ran seasonably and it was a whopping 6 cars with a piano in the lounge car. It left at 9 a.m and got to Vegas at 2:15 and was turned and sent back at 4:30 or so for the trip back to L.A. I have read some speculative reports that this X-Train could sport up to 21 cars which sounds really optimistic so let's hope for the best and stay tuned.

there was nothing about the type of cars or what railroad they used to run on,or where they would be maintained at. I presume it would be amtraks 8th street yard.

The linked article specifically says they have a conditional agreement with UP and an operating agreement with Amtrak. Left unsaid is the need for a similar agreement with BNSF for the western half of the run. The train is to terminate at Fullerton, so unlikely to ever get to 8th St. Probably will be maintained in Vegas.

I guess you missed the part of the conditional agreement with UP that says no maitenance is to be performed on the tracks in Vegas.

That clause in the agreement with the Union Plaza Hotel, not Union Pacific. There's nothing that precludes XTrain from building a maintenance facility on the UP. But maybe they will deadhead the train from Fullerton to a maintenance facility in California.

Why Fullerton when L.A. Union Station is only 30 minutes further.

There is a new parking structure at the west end of depot, and it has been reported here that it's open and in use for the much needed extra parking capacity. It's got nothing to do with the X Train, as it has been under construction for quite some time.
