Midwestern corridors consists today
Author: twropr

Is Amtrak running ANY extra cars today on its Midwest short haul trains? I heard NFL-NY #284 going by a detector with 29 axles (don't know where the extra axle comes from) - anyway if probably has six cars plus the engine.

59 has 7 coaches tonight and over 600 passengers south of Kankakee, 135 off in CHM and 255 off in CDL! 850/851 and 370/371 have extra coaches, and train 3 had a 4th coach. Other than that, consist seem normal. The added service trains to Quincy and Ann Arbor helped add capacity.

Yes, but it was an extra turn of the two existing sets of equipment, no extra equipment required.

380's equipment turned immediately at CHI for 385 (extra), then turned again at QCY to become 382.
381's equipment turned at QCY for 386 (extra), then at CHI turned again for 383. To allow a reasonable time to turn/service the consist at CHI, 383 was scheduled to depart CHI 20 minutes later on a one-time only basis.

Sounded like the extra trains were very well patronized...Perhaps we'll see that third Quincy train again when the schools begin and end each semester?
