Passenger Trains > PV's To San Diego - Sun 12/9

Was asked to provide the heads-up for private cars "California" and "Kansas" as they travel between Los Angeles and San Diego for the day before returning to Los Angeles in the evening. This will mark the Kansas' second time to SD, and the California's first for this year.

Both cars are survivors from the Rio Grande Ski Train based out of Denver, CO that have since been brought out west to be based in Los Angeles for private chartering. The Kansas has visited San Diego only once (mid-November) and the California has yet to do so prior to this weekend for 2012. The California is a beautiful dome with the Kansas being an ex-business car with a rear-platform included.

I was asked to also point out that photos of this trip are requested, and if quality, will looked into being purchased from the photographer for advertising purposes. If you happen to get out this Sunday and snag some shots of the cars, please feel free to contact me via private message and Ill be sure to get you in touch with those looking for pictures.

Cars will be traveling south of train 566 and back north on train 583 after an afternoon layover at the downtown station.

The Kansas is the ex-Wilson Mc Carthy from the Rio Grande.

I'll be out to catch it coming into Downtown.

Both the Kansas and California have been to San Diego before 2012. Both were part of the Southern Pacific fleet that hosted dignitaries during the 1996 RNC in San Diego, along with the Utah and Silver Lariat. All were parked on a specially constructed track across Broadway from the Amtrak station, in a parking lot. California was used to domicile staff.

Excuse my lack of detail, I was referring to this year specifically. I've gone back and made the necessary changes to the original posting. Thanks for catching that.

On the now cut off spur that passes the Office Depot parking lot?

Actually that spur led to the Navy Complex around Harbor Drive. The parking lot spur branched of of that spur.
