So far, nothing has happened---just a re-hash of U.S. transportation failings and challenges (I found it hard to stay awake). This will be Mica's last hearing (he's moving on). His replacement was not mentioned. So, after today, Mr. Mica will disappear from our radar screens. Who knows what the next politician heading this committee has in mind for Amtrak. Yeah, when Mica's noise was first noticed here on TO, I remember Shuster teaming up with him, especially on the "Amtrak Privatization" issues. I'll repeat that Shuster's background is automotive dealerships. This could be an improvement over a real estate guy, who knows? :-) In the end, rearranging the deck chair(man) on the Titanic does not fix the dysfunctional rail transportation policies of this country. I wish Shuster lots of luck. |
