Great stuff. I guess it's already eligible to vote.

I can't believe how fast time is flying. I took a Capitol to SAC just for the heck of it about two weeks after service was launched. There was a Pepsi Can leading, and Horizon cars were what they were using at the time. Who knew that a small'ish startup like that would become so incredibly popular? I wonder if this service makes a profit?

Or consent to marry its long-time partner the San Joaquin Corridor. Oh wait, that's not allowed in California any more... :-)

Farebox return is about 50%. However, from Amtrak's perspective, it likely makes a contribution to overhead and does not result in an increase to Amtrak's operating losses.

Can't believe it's been that long. I remember seeing it for the first time in Sacramento while riding the Zephyr home for Christmas vacation my freshman year of college. I didn't realize what it was and thought it was a detouring San Joaquin. A month or so later there was an article about the new service in one of the train mags. I ended up using the Capitol Corridor for my commute to San Francisco a few years after graduating from college. Glad to see it's still going strong.

I still miss news now (like UP 844 coming through Utah the other month, but caug it on the return), but the Internet and Trainorders sure makes it easier to stay current.

I recall the inaugral train.
I took off work and flew up to Oakland from LAX for the inaugral train.
I took a cab to Jack London Square to board the train.
It was a lot of fun, gift packs, snacks, wine tasting, Dreyers Ice Cream taster with his gold spoon.
Lots of speeches at stations along the way from the back of the Amtrak 1000.
There was a special bus back to Oakland. I got off early at West Oakland took Bart to Col. station and Bart Bus to airport and flight back to LAX.
Quite a busy day.
