Thanks for the advertisement, you work for Pullman? Pancakes are pretty small and only one sausage! Where are the potatos and grits like they have on Amtrak?

Breakfast in the Hickory Creek was wonderfully prepared and just enough to satisfy until lunch. I was served what I asked for...less is better for this fellow!

Indeed I work for Pullman, deadheading back to Albany.

I hope Pullman is a complete success, but when you were engaged in boosterism in the Pullman Update discussion, you really should have disclosed your employment relationship. Such behavior just raises doubts about how things really are going and leaves a bad taste for me and maybe others who thought we were getting the views of an actual customer.

I see your point. Didn't mean to mislead. My comments on riding the Hickory Creek are indeed my own personal impressions. I have never seen this car before. Pullman rented it for the recent Pullman trip. I live in North Creek, NY and rode the car on the deadhead move to and from Chicago.

I suppose I will now receed into the woodwork and not get involved with postings any further...history should have taught me that it never comes to a positive outcome. I do stand by my assertions that our society can stand a bit of civilized travel...on Pullman or on private car opportunities like I have experienced on the Hickory Creek.

Cheers to all.

If one were reading for comprehension in the Pullman Update thread, it certainly wasn't hard to discern that SNCSteve obviously worked for the company: "We used it and the kitchen in the Hickory Creek to prepare in."

Unfortunately, ts1457 is one of the resident naysayers whose posts usually swirl in a cloud of negativity. Take it with a grain of salt.

With my present weight that wife constantly nags me about that looks like a beautiful breakfast to me. Having had the opportunity to ride many of the great pre-Amtrak pre-Via trains when they were still great trains memorable meals are many. Prime Rib on CN French Toast on AT&SF, big baked potato on NP that were actually grown in Washington not Idaho. Only RR operated train I ever had a bad meal on was actually on the City of San Francisco in one of the SP automats. Best way for the RR to drive away customers was the Automats. Amtrak meals in there first few years were all very good. Today Amtrak has average meals that one could get in practically any restaurant on any street corner in America with few exceptions. The best of Amtrak is served on the Empire Builder and Coast Starlight.Via Rail Canada puts out outstanding meals even today on the Canadian and Ocean. I will have to try Pullman and see what they have to offer. I should mention that I have also travelled on the AOE and that was probably the best service wife and I have had on any North American train.
Those griddle cakes in the picture are making me hungry every time I look at them, time for a mid morning snack while wife is at church.

Go find a post where I have been negative about the Pullman venture.

Steve, you are taking my comments the wrong way. All I said was that you needed to identify your relationship to Pullman upfront. No reason to go off and sulk. By identifying yourself, you would be better able to explain what is so special about your service.

What, no 20th Century Limited china service on the Hickory Creek? Did know about rectangular dishes back in the day?

I hope to ride this service, assuming they stick around!

Hmm, I never intimated that my observation was specific to the Pullman venture. There is more to life -- so much more -- than merely slinging dull arrows around the Passenger Trains board. Your omnipresent contempt for Amtrak is tiring, and these other frivolous forays into negativity do nothing to elevate the dialogue here about passenger train travel.

Even if he wasn't a passenger on the excursion, I think it would be interesting to hear from the crew anyway about these trips.

In a Pullman operated car only Pullman Company crockery would be used regardless of the railroad
the car was operated on. After April 1958 most NYC Pullmans became railroad operated.

I don't disagree. If he posts something, let's call it the Superintendent's blog, it could be very interesting and beneficial to the business. It is just best in business to avoid an inside testimonial.

Just proves my point that there is nothign you guys won't argue about over here on the passenger board.

Pancakes and sauasage, looks good. 3 bucks at McDonalds with hash browns and a cup of joe sure it tastes much better at 79 MPH though.

SNCSteve, Thank you for the post, I've been very interested in the Pullman venture. To that "TS" guy, does it really matter to you that it is an employee who appreciates Pullman service? I can appreciate your point that you took this as some sort of advertisement for Pullman, but if the poster is telling the truth, well, do you have a problem with the truth? And Steve, if you know TO at all, you surely know there are members who love nothing more than baring their fangs......again and again, and over again. AA

I think your comments are absolutely correct and refreshingly upbeat. Looking forward to a ride in Pullman service next year. Hope your company succeeds and provides an opportunity to ride Hickory Creek on the LSL on a regular basis. My one request - if you do expand your operations to that train, as I think it was originally intended, is that you paint the cars in NYC colors. IC inspired paint scheme is great but on the 'Water Level Route' it needs to be in the classic NYC grays.

Bet Steve never thought a photo of a bunch of pancakes would lead to this!
