NCDOT Loco Leading Amtrak 80 to Washington
Author: ARandall70

Due to the failure of the fuel pump on the lead P42DC(number unknown at this point) near Kannapolis, North Carolina this morning, the NCDOT protect locomotive from Charlotte(I believe it is RNCX F59PHI 1755 "City of Salisbury") is being added to the head end.

The train should be under way approximately 2 hours behind schedule.

It will lead to Richmond. Can't lead on the RF&P.

Ah, yes, forgot about the RF&P. Thanks for that. Good luck for the guys south of Richmond.

The train is just now at Burlington, North Carolina. It took much longer to get moving than anticipated. They died in a single track section, and they had to limp to Salisbury before the additional locomotive could be added.

I am hearing conflicting reports on whether it is the 1797 or 1755. I will try to confirm when it passes NC State University.

Either way, it is a F59PHI, and they look identical now that the '55 has been repaired.

NCDOT 1797 is the lead unit.

Where do they send their F59s for rebuilds and repairs?

Not too many agencies on the east coast has the f59phi model

Beech Grove. Amtrak has the contract with NCDOT to overhaul the locomotives.
