Amtrak's longest train Ashland, VA 7/12/13
Author: RNinRVR

It has been a while since I posted any shots of the Auto Train so here is the south bound version, train 53, as it passes Ashland, VA at mp15 on the RF&P sub last Friday afternoon. Note there is some radio chatter in the beginning of the video before the train appears. On this day P40's 814 and 832 were providing the power.

Looking REAL Good Sharon....Jeez, no complaints at all..(lol)
That was truly a long train.
Thanks for The Whitefish, Montana reply.....
SERIOUS Question for you & anybody else about utube recently...
For the past week or so, All videos seriously jerk when in full screen, HD mode..using Google Chrome
They used to play smoothly....anybody else notice this...or is it my computer?
When viewed on Safari, they play just fine, and they play perfectly here on TO.
Todd, please do not delete this cause I mentioned utube..LOL...Doug

What is the maximum speed limit allowed for a train this long? Are there steep grades on its journey? Will two engines provide the power necessary for this train?

> What is the maximum speed limit allowed for a train this long?

CSX limits the Auto-Train to 70 regardless of its length.

> Are there steep grades on its journey?

No, although there are grades descending and ascending river valleys.

> Will two engines provide the power necessary for this train?

Yes, assuming that CSX dispatchers don't often make it stop, go through turnouts, etc.

I have not had any issues with wide screen mode, but I do have problems at times streaming 1080p even though I have a 75/35 line. Thanks for the nice remarks Doug.

I haven't noticed any problems ... and I watch a lot of stuff on "that" site.
As an aside ... I find it easier sometimes to download the longer videos ( do a search for "free youtube download" - a great program that works nicely) and then copy them onto a usb drive which goes into my blue-ray player.

I am sorry that I do not. I was having issues hearing the defect detector south of me which gives axel count and length so did not get it.

Gives the circus train a run for the money.
Nice composure.

From the video, I think I counted 16 Superliners and 23 auto carriers plus the 2 locomotives.
So, approximately, auto carriers: 23 x 90 ft = 2070 ft
Superliners: 16 x 85 ft = 1360 ft
Locomotives: 2 x 69 ft = 138 ft
Total Train: 3568 ft

Most likely, the problem that you have been encountering is related to the UPLOAD bandwidth capacity available at that particular moment from the site that is hosting the HD videos that you are trying to watch. If many people are trying to watch videos at the exact same time, the server may simply not be able to deliver all of that content in real time, without some stuttering and stalling. Downloading the whole file to your local device first, before attempting to view, with usually solve the problem. And, if you still get stuttering, then your own computer may be too slow, or attempting to process too much other stuff in the background, which is thus limiting CPU time or I/O bandwidth.
