Inspection Car Navy 118
Author: RNinRVR

This former UP business car had been pulled from its home at Ft. Eustis Museum and taken to Washington to be run on a round trip to Newport News, VA on Saturday 8/31/13. It is eventually headed to the Grove for its recertification by Amtrak. I was in Ashland, VA yesterday for its passage and here are a few of the photographs.

The first is of the car as Amtrak regional 67 was stopped at Ashland to do its station work and the second is as the train is departing and rolling by the station.

This car is ex UP business car 118 and really has no Navy connection except the owner labeled it that way.

The window pattern looks odd for a former business car. AA

I don't know Bill, it looks more like anchor flutes than it does a boat, at least from a distance!

That's not necessarily so, 49CFR Part 232 Sub-part 407 (e). There are always exceptions in Federal Regulations, you just have to look for them.

A friend of mine just texted me that they were passing this car while they were passing through Albany, NY on Amtrak. Since they know I'm the Navy's Trackage Subject Matter Expert, they were half jokingly asking if I was in Albany too.

Unfortunately, though I would love to try, I don't get a PV to inspect the Navy railroads. I don't usually even get a Hyrail. Only two of my bases have hyrails.

The symbol on the back is similar to the attached image. The major elements of the logo are the ship, the anchor and the eagle.
