Silver Star Tr.92 runs early, skips TPA Oct 13-Nov 13
Author: GenePoon

A temporary trackwork project between Rocky Mount and Petersburg in mid-late October and
early November will require the northbound Silver Star, Train 92 to operate earlier to
clear a work window.

There were plans to combine Train 92 and the Silver Meteor, Train 98 south of Jacksonville
but they were changed.

Effective October 13, through November 13:

Train 92 will depart Miami 730am, skip Tampa (with bustitution), arrive Jacksonville 344pm,
New York Penn 1238pm next day.

Train 98 will remain on its current schedule. There are no planned changes to southbound
trains.

The revised schedules are already in Amtrak.com

That's great, Amtrak!
Tampa is, after all, just a flag stop on the route. There couldn't be more than 100 or so people on and off both 91 and 92 every day in Tampa.
Just make sure you keep Miami happy. It's the most important city in Florida, after all.

It just reiterates the mistake Amtrak made when they got rid of the maintenance base in Tampa.

Normally, all trackwork runs Mondays thru Thursdays, but I see this will be a 7-day per week schedule change. In addition, the Palmetto will be changed. Southbound No. 89 will run approximately 4 hours later, and No. 90 will run approximately 2 hours later. Nos. 79 and 80 will not be affected. I notice there are markings on No. 1 track at North Collier (I've been told this track is to be replaced), so, I guess this has to do with the Palmetto change, leaving only one set of trains in the work area.

Mr. Harmon,

Theres no need to get upset over it since there is bustitution to Winter Haven still in place. Dont blame Amtrak, CSX is forcing our hand in this due to trackwork south of Petersburg.

The maintenance base no longer being here has nothing to do with this. These two trains would have left Miami as one train. There are other reasons why the train would have been combined but I cant discuss them here.

On the bright side, the much earlier schedule gives me a chance to do a little joy ride up to Kissimmee and back. Assuming everything runs on time (LOL) I'll have an hour and a half between trains. Greyhound is near by just in case though....

79&80 is getting axed during the work week days. I believe there still gonna run it as a stub train between Raleigh and Charlotte.

Ok, it's in the system now the way you said it, but when I checked around lunch time, Amtrak still had it in the system as the only train thru Petersburg during the day time. Thanks for the correction.

Everything will still be bunched together thru Petersburg:

98- 3:41a 92- 5:47a 174- 6:27a 52- 6:30a (approx) 90- 6:11p

89- 4:22p 91- 5:57p 53- 6:20p (approx) 125- 7:00p 97- 10:24p

Then, of course, the Norfolk trains on weekends are a slight variation.
