Today's 8/28 question
Author: Chessie1963

The two trains left their respective western terminals on time even though 7/27 have not yet arrived from the east. Normally 7/27 turn on the same day to become 8/28. Where did Amtrak get the extra equipment?

And if they did make up trains with other equipment, kudos to Amtrak for making this work!

When Amtrak cancelled a couple of train 8/28's a few weeks ago the equipment coming in the same day would lay over night for mechanical, cleaning and repairs. Now in PDX and SEA they do have an extra set of equipment until the BNRR can run trains close to on time so Amtrak in PDX and SEA can turn the equipment. PDX can turn a set in about 3 hours if there is just routine mechanical for the set. Sea can turn in a train 8 to a train 7 in about the same time only if there only routine mechanical. If they have more serious mechanical like turning wheels or loco issues it could be as long as 6 hours. Then there is interfering with Sounder service when turning on the Wye at the south end of the yard. Having an extra set in SEA and PDX solves a lot of issues.
