Algoma Central Private Car for Sale.....
Author: ACR_Ted

I see where the CNR is selling the former Algoma Central private car "Agawa" - I just wonder what they would want for it? One can dream eh :)

Keep in mind, it's not just the cost of owning a private car, it's the upkeep, finding a proper place to store the car, the insurance, and the basic maintenance. One needs BIG BUCKS.

As that famous saying goes....if you have to ask what it gets for gas mileage...you can't afford to own one!!

The folks at Monticello might want to inquire of CN on the possibility of donation.....

Those roller bearing retrofit trucks may be a problem when relocating it, though.

If one wants to acquire a small fortune, all one has to do is start with a large one then go out and buy a PV. LOL!

Isn't this a wood car? Would have to move on a flatcar.

It says "wood sheathed steel" for the roof and sides - I seem to remember though that it has a steel underframe.

I know that the cost of the PV is only a small part of the overall cost of having a PV, but as a former ACR employee I can dream about this :). If I ever hit the lottery well then maybe...

Perhaps Cousin Ed can buy and restore this car....certainly would be a standout on one of his trains !

Anyone happen to know how much they're asking for this car? According to what I understand, it's history can be traced back to the Wabash.

Hey, Cousin Ted

Why don't you buy it, and you can keep it on one of our railroads.

Then you can be a railroad typhoon like me...

This car was built in 1913 by Barney & Smith for the Longview, Portland & Northern, then acquired by the Wabash in the 1930's and then bought by the ACR in the early 1950's.

Hi Cousin Ed,

If I ever hit the lottery or the stock market quintuples maybe....

I suspect that getting it upgraded to Amtrak specs would cost more than the car itself, and with only 1 bedroom and a single bed, the interior would need to be redone as well.

But I can dream eh ... :)

A RR Typhoon or Tycoon??? :)
