Additional Kansas City Trains Possible

I've heard from my friends that there was a new article stating that Amtrak is considering adding more Missouri Riverrunner trains to the line that service between Kansas City to Lincoln Illinois, does anyone know if this rumor is true or is it a hoax?

Amtrak is not permitted to "consider" such added trains. The states must decide
to fund them and then can decide on an operator, whether Amtrak or somebody else.

What are they going to use for EQUIPMENT? Gondolas in nice weather, and boxcars if it rains? There will be a certain run for plastic lawn chairs at Walmarts in the Midwest! === === = === JLH

Wish they hadn't taken out the Katy, as it would have been nice to have had some kind of service to Columbia. But the trail is nice to have I suppose.

A couple of things to consider in any discussion of additional service in Missouri. 1. The Missouri State Legislature has been generally very supported of the passenger service we currently have. 2. The UP in partnership with MO DOT is expending a lot of money on the Sedalia Sub across Missouri--a couple of new passing sidings completed and two more major passing siding projects in the final design phase, double tracking of a couple of single track river crossings.

But, right now, I am not sure there would be any more state money to support additional service even if the UP would allow more passenger trains across the Sedalia Sub.

K.C. to Lincoln, IL? Sounds like a Chicago-K.C. service that bypasses St. Louis, mostly ex-GM&O route.

It would be nice if they would extend the service to St Louis, Indianapolis, Columbus and Pittsburgh (the old Amtrak National Limited route). Then anyone between LA and the east could bypass CHI.

Unfortunately, you would need track.

Could the original poster have meant KC trains that connect with Lincoln Service trains?

However KC - STL - Indy and then the Cardinal route would be feasible. Wasn't that discussed in the Cardinal PIP?

No this is something completely different I'm definitely aware they could use the Riverrunner train then once arrived St.Louis interchanged to a Lincoln Service train to get to Chicago, this is a new set of trains I'm talking about.
