Passenger Trains > One, Two, Three, LiftDate: 04/17/14 21:50 One, Two, Three, Lift Author: walstib A Santa Barbara station agent, right, lifts a boxed bicycle up to the conductor on train 14, who is in a baggage car clearly showing its Santa Fe heritage.

Date: 04/18/14 00:17 Re: One, Two, Three, Lift Author: coach Ah, the AMTRAK bike box. I've used that service many times after a long bike tour. I'm grateful for it.
Some of the station agents, though, have no clue about AMTRAK's bike policy. It's odd and embarrassing when you have to explain it to them. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/18/14 00:17 by coach. Date: 04/18/14 01:03 Re: One, Two, Three, Lift Author: The_Chief_Way the ol' 1257....soon to be retired

Date: 04/18/14 07:07 Re: One, Two, Three, Lift Author: DTrainshooter Yeah...great looking baggage car and probably built way better than anything coming along to replace it.
Date: 04/18/14 08:38 Re: One, Two, Three, Lift Author: PHall That's a Pullman-Standard car so it's not all stainless steel and it probably has corrosion issues.
Which is why it will probably get axed. Now if it was one of the Budd All Stainless Steel cars... Date: 04/18/14 13:03 Re: One, Two, Three, Lift Author: mcdeo Well it seems like from the new Viewliner order, that 25 is the number of low level train sets needed to currently run Amtrak. 25 bag/dorms, 25 diners, 25 more sleepers. That leaves 55 straight baggage for all Superliner trains that run with a dorm/sleeper. I have not run the numbers, but maybe keep some older heritage cars for surplus just in case?
