Just a theory but the tire might have blown out and the driver lost control and crashed into the guardrail... or it blew during the accident.

It's not really OT, because the bus companies and the usual anti-Amtrak suspects have repeatedly indicated that Amtrak should be replaced by busses: we have had suggestions even here on TO that long-haul Amtrak passengers should actually be on busses (not that those suggesting this would ever ride a bus for hours and hours).
