Things panned out OK in N.Elizabeth with two ACS-64's
Author: Mgoldman

Stopped by North Elizabeth, NJ on Sunday and caught some action at
the station.

Got lucky with timing and caught ACS-64 #602 at 3:10 PM and #600 just
before 5 PM when the shadows started to overtake the platform tracks.

Enjoy!

Amazing that it only takes one motor to haul a LD train...

What is so amazing about it? Been happening on the NEC with electric locos for 75 years. These puny 9 to 11 car Florida trains are nothing! E-60's hauled 18-20 car Silver Meteor/Star's until the mid 90's when Amtrak stopped combining the Miami and Tampa sections...

That second shot is perfect. I've never been able to get that effect as well, even on79 mph trains.

Picture 2, as I view it, I can feel the motion. You captured it!

True, but the LD's usually had 2 AEM-7s, good to see them go back to one motor...

Great pictures!

A reminder to folks interested in visiting North Elizabeth. It's a largely rush hour station, and has limited service off hours. If you're taking the train, check the departures as well as the arrivals for your visit.

Parking is fee based, and they check. But the westbound side daily parking area attendant goes off duty after the last east bound train in the morning.

North Elizabeth is deserted on weekends/holidays when only one east and one west train stops there.

Single AEM-7s were (still are) common - doubling up seemed to be more a function of lack of reliability of certain unrebuilt units.

Why? G's did it for 40 years without breaking a sweat. If the new ones can't, then the money to develop and purchase them was a total waste.
