Here's One For The Rivet Counters

Union Pacific's rivet-laden Mobile Laboratory Car, doing duty on the PTC test train, waits in Oxnard today as Surfliner 769 pulls into town.

The PTC test train has been working on the Coast north of Los Angeles for the past month. After 769 arrived, the PTC test train headed south to Van Nuys.

Are those solar panels on the test car? If so what are they used for.

Yes, those are solar panels and they power all the gadgets inside in the "Mobile Laboratory".

Not bad for an 86 year old car. I guess they liked rivets in 1928.
