Passenger Trains > Tumwater Canyon fire still burning, but Highway 2 reopeDate: 07/20/14 05:44 Tumwater Canyon fire still burning, but Highway 2 reope Author: kgrr 6:00AM, Skykomish, WA. (updated)
My son and I are train watching from the Cascadia Inn in Skykomish again this weekend. For most of Saturday 7/19, Scenic Subdivision appeared to have been closed to train traffic, except that the Empire Builder #8 (Eastbound) and the Empire Builder #7, delayed and assisted by a BNSF engine, crossed paths at 3:50 PM yesterday. At about 8:00 PM freight traffic began running east, but trains were often held for long periods of time. This morning, freight traffic appears to be moving steadily through Cascade Tunnel at Stevens Pass. It appears that the fire has moved down the canyon, past Winton where Hwy 2 continues south towards Leavenworth, but the Scenic Subdivision heads east through the Winton Tunnel, crossing the Wenatchee river and following the Chumstick highway, down a different valley to Leavenworth. The #7 Empire Builder should not be delayed by the fire this morning. -==- Tumwater Canyon fire still burning, but Highway 2 reopened http://www.king5.com/news/local/Wildfire-closes-Highway-2-near-Leavenworth-128003033.html (older) Wildfire near Leavenworth closes stretch of Highway 2 http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2024087578_ewfires17xml.html Highway 2 between Cole's Corner and Leavenworth was closed due to the fire in the Tumwater Canyon Cole's Corner: http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=47.753406&lon=-120.740776&z=12&m=b Leavenworth: http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=47.593662&lon=-120.664902&z=12&m=b Cascadia Inn, Skykomish, WA: http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=47.709639&lon=-121.359004&z=17&m=b Edited 2 time(s).
