Ray Burns one of the founders of Trainweb.com died Monday night in Missouri. I wrote a Tribute to him on my web site.

Ray Burns was among a cadre of enthusiasts who made it a point to ride on Amtrak
inaugural services in the 1990s. He came along on the first runs of several new
trains that Amtrak introduced in those halcyon days, including the Kentucky
Cardinal, Texas Eagle California Service, Acela Express and Downeaster.

He was always notable for his infectious enthusiasm on these trips.

He was also a man of very high moral standards, something that guided his life
to the very end. I shall miss him, too.

I had the privilege of meeting Ray back in 2002 at TrainWeb's former headquarters in the Fullerton Santa Fe Depot. In 2008, when I was riding #3 to LA, during the La Plata station stop, we also talked briefly on the platform during that trip. I also got to speak with him by phone while I was in La Plata in 2012 on another trip. I know by then his health was in decline but I still had a very nice conversation with him. He was always very knowledgeable about train travel and an all around really nice guy, my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, we'll miss you Ray!

That's a very nice and sweet tribute to Ray. Thank you.

I was fortunate to have met him a few times, when
TrainWeb was in Fullerton,. In 2005, he showed my son
and me around their newer location in Fullerton just
down the street from the Fullerton Santa Fe depot, which
they had outgrown. He and Steve and Shivam then took
us to lunch at a nice local Indian restaurant. We had a
great time.

I really liked him. A very nice guy, and always cheerful.
TrainWeb will not be the same without him.

RIP, Ray.

Ray was buried today in Missouri. RIP my good old friend. You will always be missed!

Ray was the HEART and SOUL of the trainweb family to me and a very very gracious host to us.
I feel very very HONORED to have met him several times.
It will be totally totally IMPOSSIBLE to succeed him at Trainweb..
