Publications like RTN that ran primarily short news items, with limited photography and original content, were very vulnerable to replacement by Internet mailing lists and websites such as Trainorders. Author: floridajoe2001 Years and years ago, I submitted an article to RTN which they published.
It was about the St.Louis-Chicago route entitled "A corridor in waiting". In it, I remember giving all the reasons why I felt this route would BOOM, if only the track, etc., would be upgraded; as the GM&O route went right through the heart of all the important cities in down-state Illinois. I never kept a copy of it. Wish I had. Now that this route is actually being upgraded; I'd like to see how good a "profit" I may have been regarding ridership "booming" when all these improvements are finally completed.
